Pete in Vanuatu - Port Vila pt. 2

We arrived in Vila on New Years Eve and settled into the Hibiscus motel with Alison and Dave. The four of us shared a huge apartment style place with kitchen and all. After getting to the hotel we left for town to do last minute shopping before the stores all closed. We stocked up on food for New Years Day brunch and some ingredients for pineapple mimosas. That night we went to dinner at Numbawan Brewery for some numbabest pizza. Pretty much every time we go to the Brewery we get the same thing - three cheese mushroom pizza. This time we decided to spice it up a little to ring in the new year and ordered the three cheese mushroom pizza with steak on one and pepperoni on the others. Exciting stuff happening over here! Of course it was delicious but also left me mildly incapacitated because it was so much food so Pete and I just hung at hibiscus to welcome the new year.

The next morning we woke up and prepared only the most traditional of new years brunches...stuffed cheeseburgers with eggs and mimosas with pineapple slices. After brunch Pete and I moved into the Grand hotel and enjoyed feeling a little luxurious for the last two nights he was here. We went to hibachi one night and an amazing french restaurant the other and did shopping for christmas gifts for Pete to bring back to the States in between.

On Saturday morning we were up bright and early - before the sun - at 4 getting ready to go to the airport. Pete's check in was at 5:30 and mine (to go to Aneityum) was at 5. The check in times are always taken with a grain of salt because they're two hours early but nothing ever happens in all that time so we usually give it an hour tops. We got to the airport around 5:45 and by the time Pete got checked in it was time to part. It was hard having to say goodbye after such a great two weeks together and the thought of all the more months before my close of service but it really was the best two weeks so I can't complain, I can just be thankful.
