Understanding extended family relationships in Vanuatu can be a challenge but let me try and introduce you to my family..
In my Vanuatu host family I am the 9th out of 10 kids...crazy after coming from the US as the first of only three. The first born died young and afterwards came my sister Eslinah, brother Malu, brother Joses, sister Maylina, sister Makinah, brother Moslee, brother Johnsley, brother Riki and brother Ratu. Most have kids of their own and some have kids with kids but everyone works together to take care of my Mami and Dadi who are getting older and need help with cooking, cleaning and laundry.
